- CLUMP POINT PROJECT FULLY APPROVED
- The letter below from Queensland Transport and Main Roads [TMR] to Reference Group Members was a pleasure to receive and to pass on to you. It certifies that the Clump Point Project is now fully approved and the construction phase is about to begin. It’s fantastic news.
There’s been concern expressed regarding the inevitable closures of the boat ramps during construction. Yes there will be significant disruption to both recreational users and commercial operators during the 9 months construction period at Clump Point. However, we’ve all got to be patient during this period, and trust that commercial operators especially will satisfactorily sort something out. Because of the geography of Clump Point with its limited land-use area, some complete closures must be expected. TMR have made it clear in their submissions to GBRMPA and in Public Information Packages that they will do their best to keep one boat ramp open for commercial operators whenever possible. Some discomfort for a short period of time will lead to greatly improved boating facilities for the whole community.

Dear Reference Group Members,
For your information TMR gained the final environmental approval (GBRMPA and QPWS granted permit G18/39785.1) for the Mission Beach Clump Point Boating Infrastructure Upgrade Project on 29 June 2018.
This permit and associated approval information can be found at the following link on GBRMPA’s website:
http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/about-us/consultation/consultation-completed
TMR is now finalising the detailed design and tender documents in accordance with these approvals and plans to advertise a tender for construction in the near future. Our website (link below) will be updated soon and as the delivery of the project progresses: https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Projects/Name/R/Recreational-boating-facilities/Clump-Point-Mission-Beach.
Kind Regards
Chris

A PERSONAL OPINION. Although the Clump Point Project has been given the go-ahead and is strongly supported by this community, there will still be moans and groans issuing from a few dissatisfied folk. We should pay little heed to the expected negative comments that will float around out there, because we’ve heard them all before and they were always shallow. The Mission Beach community should enjoy its recent successes and now look more positively towards a wealthier and more unified future.
